I found your very cool site about Red Barn restaurants recently, and it inspired me to take some pictures of it for your site.
The pictures with this email are of the Madison Heights, Michigan former Red Barn location.
It is located at the intersection of Dequindre Road and 12 Mile Road in Madison Heights, MI.
It is now a cell phone and accessories store called "Wireless Toyz"
Previous to that, it was a "Madison Florist" shop for a few years before that business closed.
I recall that they had demolished what was left of the original RB sign, before the cell phone store moved in to the building. (It was the bottom rectangular part of the original Red Barn sign that had been at the location for many years. I assume they lopped off the farm shaped top of the sign when RB closed years ago.)
I know that it became a Greek food and some other types of cuisine, series of restaurants during it's many iterations after Red Barn had closed in the 1970's. I will try to find out what exact year it had closed.
If I can ever find a picture of it from the days when it was Red Barn, I will send that to you also. Madison Heights has a historical society at their library that may have some photos.
I recall eating there as a kid when my mom would take my brother and I there for hamburgers, fries and shakes during the 1960's.
Feel free to use any or all of these photos for your site. They were taken on November 1, 2004.....
I got to thinking about the Red Barn a few weeks ago and came across your site. Man, did it bring back some fond memories. When I was a kid, my family would go to the Red Barn every Sunday after church for coffee. My brother and I would each get an order of fries and a Coke. I remember when they put the salad bar in. One of the biggest treats of my childhood was when my Dad would take us to the Red Barn and we would take the food outside and eat it sitting on the tail gate of the family stationwagon.
This Red Barn was located on Jefferson Street in Frederick, Maryland. It later became one of "The Farm" restaurants before closing (sometime in the mid to late 80's, I think). Anyway, here is the photo.
Thanks again for the reminder of a nice time in my life.
